Summary of the position

Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides administrative support for director of the Observatory.
- Assists the Director responding to extremely confidential or critical information and supports the goals and objectives of the Observatory.
- Oversees the coordination of calendars and determines priorities.
- Coordinates meetings, shepherds paperwork, writes meeting minutes and activity reports.
- Maintains Director's calendar, correspondence, and travel.
- Arranges/coordinates meetings, staff retreats, conferences, and appointments
- Assists the Director with maintenance and development of the content of the Observatory website.
- Assists the Director with outreach and communication to external constituencies, including social media.
- Assists the Director with monitoring of the Observatory operational metrics
- Provides occasional administrative support for the Observatory management team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor degree
- 5+ years of experience in administration of a science oriented organization
- Strong experience in public relations and/or outreach with a science oriented organization.
- Excellent written and oral English skills.
- Expert proficiency in computer skills related to administration, editing, outreach, and organization metrics.
- Articulate communicator with people of varied backgrounds and education levels.
- Capacity to multitask high volume of work quickly and with accuracy.
- Functions well under pressure and in time-sensitive situations.
- Possess a positive, upbeat attitude with ability to think on feet and to work with a team.
- Able to work productively without supervision.
- High degree of initiative and accountability.
- Familiarity with and interest in science-related organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate Degree
- Familiarity with language of scientific research and peer-reviewed articles.
- Familiarity with astronomy or space sciences.
