Opening Reception

Wednesday April 10, 5:30 – 8:00 pm
A reception with heavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be held on the roof of the Environment and Natural
Resources 2 Building (more commonly known as ENR2) on the University of Arizona campus, address 1064 E.
Lowell St. The elevator to the rooftop can be found at the west end of the central courtyard.
The ENR2 building is 1.2 miles / 1.9 km from the Aloft Hotel, easily accessed by foot. If driving, visitor
parking is available in the Sixth Street Parking Garage (fee required) directly east of ENR2.

Conference Venue

Thursday April 11 – Saturday April 13
The conference will be held in the Dunlap Room at the Arizona Sands Club in the Arizona Stadium, on the
University of Arizona campus. Entrance is at the northeast corner of the stadium (intersection of Cherry Ave
and Enke Drive, address 565 N. Cherry Ave). Distance from the Aloft Hotel is 0.7 miles / 1.1 km., with easy
pedestrian access. If driving, visitor parking is available across the street at the Cherry Avenue Garage
(fee required).

Optional Mirror Lab Tour

Thursday April 11, ~5 – 6:15 pm
An optional free tour of Steward Observatory’s Richard F. Caris Mirror Lab will be available at the end of
the day on Thursday. The lab is located directly below the conference venue in and adjacent to the Arizona
Stadium. The lab produced the primary mirrors for the LBT and recently completed casting of the seventh
8.4m mirror for the Giant Magellan Telescope.

Conference Banquet

Friday April 12, 6:30 – 8:00 pm
The Conference Banquet will be held at El Charro Café, 311 N. Court Ave. Established in 1922, El Charro
is the oldest Mexican restaurant in continuous operation by the same family in the U.S., and features
prominently in Tucson’s designation as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy.
El Charro is easily accessed via streetcar from the Aloft Hotel and University of Arizona campus, with a stop
directly adjacent to the NOIRLab offices. The streetcar is free and no ticket is required. When arriving
downtown, exit at the Church Avenue stop (transit time ~20 minutes from NOIRLab). The restaurant is a 7-
minute walk from the stop, 4 blocks north and 1 block west. The departure stop for return is at Church Ave
and Broadway Blvd.
Upon arrival at El Charro, enter at the door on the left labeled Patio & Lounge.
If driving, parking is available on adjacent streets (parking meter enforcement ends at 5 pm) and in
downtown parking garages.

LBT 20th Anniversary

Celebration – Saturday April 13, 1:00 – 5:30 pm
The 20th Anniversary Celebration of the LBT dedication will take place immediately following the conference
in a separate venue – Steward Observatory, 933 N. Cherry Ave, room N210, which is a ~10 minute walk
